Indoor Gardening Diary Log #1

This was the beginning, we have just received our finalized sample after months of planning & researching (still felt like it’s unreal).

Just as excited as a child who just got his or her birthday present, we decided to plant some aromatic basil seeds to see if the entire kit works after all (fingers crossed).

Day 1 [2022 Dec 13 | 2.30pm]

We complete the setup and popped the basil seeds into the tiny holes at the surface of the charcoal peat pellets. The above image was how it looked before we proceeded to cover up the soil slightly with the pair of green tools provided.

LightlyBloom’s Grow Lights comes with inbuilt remote control with various functions, we can easily adjust brightness level, light intensity, switch between light modes and also set up timer to turn off when necessary.

Blinds were then drawn down and the lights’ distance was approximately 4 inches, and we left it on for 12 hours. Lastly, we covered the container with the humidity dome provided, and closed the ventilation holes at the top to create the greenhouse effect — which was ideal for seed germination.

Day 2 [2022 Dec 14 | 2.00pm]

We noticed that water droplets have formed overnight evenly and the charcoal peat pellets retained moisture perfectly. No additional watering required.

Most of the seedlings have germinated and resurfaced overnight without disturbance. They looked like ‘tiny white balloons’, which were very different from their original form which looked like small black dots.

Day 7 [2022 Dec 19 | 8.44am]

We were away for a few days and some of the seeds have already grown further into tiny seedlings, we dampened the charcoal pellets, left the humidity dome on and continued to record our observations.

Day 9 [2022 Dec 21 | 9.40am]

The water droplets have formed evenly both on the surface and the sides, which is a good sign as the greenhouse effect allows all pellets to get a fair amount of moisture for growth.

Seeds that have not germinated previously were also growing steadily at it’s own speed.

Here’s a close up shot of a basil seedling that’s growing healthily, we were absolutely thrilled!

Day 15 [2022 Dec 27 | 8.20am]

Christmas holidays 🎄 were over and we were so excited to see how well the basil seeds have grown.

Compared to a week ago, the seedlings have definitely grown taller and we were looking forward to future progress! 💚
