This is probably one of the HOTTESTπ₯questions that we have been getting: Are LED lights that important for plants’ growth?
Yes, we do get it that plants need light & water to survive. But why are there people who are still willing to spend tons of money just to build the perfect setup?
In this article, we have decided to conduct a simple experiment to find out whether LED lights play an essential part on plants’ growth & whether it’s better than limited light sources by the windowsill.
We have chosen three types of seeds for this experiment, they are Mini Cucumbers, Coriander and Japanese Cucumbers. The Mini Cucumber & Japanese Cucumber seeds are both oval shaped and slightly bigger than average seeds. However, the latter is red in color instead of beige.
The coriander seeds that we have chosen have a very pleasant smell when we first take them out of the packet, the seeds are red but much smaller and round in shape.
Day 1 [2023 Jan 13 | 10.00am]
This morning, we have arranged and set up three different types of scenarios to observe the seeds’ behavior:
Set A [No Specific Light Source Given]
Set B [Placed By The Window]
Set C [Using LightlyBloom’s Grow Lights]
We watered it thoroughly before leaving it aside for the weekend.
Day 4 [2023 Jan 16 | 10.00am]
We came back three days later and observed the following:
Set A [No Specific Light Source Given]
With no specific light source given, the pellets still feel moist and damp. A light amount of transpiration is observed and only two seedlings β Japanese Cucumber & Mini Cucumber, germinated out of the eight charcoal pellets.
Set B [Placed By The Window]
The weather for the past few days has been pretty warm, full of sunshine and not much clouds are visible. So we already expected a high level of humidity in the planting container, and indeed the container has already formed a layer of water droplets on the surface and sides of the container.
Similar to set A, there are only two seedlings that germinated, but they both Mini Cucumbers. The speed of growth is also about the same as Set A, look how cute the seedling is! π±
Set C [Using LightlyBloom’s Grow Lights]
We are excited to mention that with LightlyBloom’s grow lights on, five out of eight pellets have germinated β the seedling tray with the FASTEST rate for seed germination!
PS: Even though all seeds have their own natural speed of growth, we still learned from the experiment that the grow lights had indeed aided with the speed of germination!
